Rest in Christ

“Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” — Matthew 11:28-30

This guide walks you through six weeks of practicing rest. Each week, you will put certain things to rest as you pursue greater communion with Christ. By putting to rest these specific things, you will hopefully find greater space in your life for God to speak to you through His Word. This guide is not intended to be picked up one day a week, but rather, you are encouraged to spent time each day considering how and when you will find rest in the disciplines of reading, praying, and meditating over the next 40 days. Use the provided supplemental passages as your daily readings and write your reflections in the space provided.

The ultimate goal of this guide is to get your eyes on Jesus - to stop striving, straining, and controlling - to remember afresh His sufficiency - to fully believe and live out a life of trust in Christ. When these things happen, our clenched hands open, our constantly turning minds focus, and our souls find rest.
